WHAT IS  NOTIFICATION?

• The Data Protection Commissioner maintains a public register of data controllers established, or processing in the Bailiwick of Guernsey
• Each register entry includes the name and address of the data controller and a general description of the processing of personal data by a data controller
• Individuals can consult the register to find out what processing of personal data is being carried out by a particular data controller
• Notification is the process by which a data controller's details are added to the register.

• The Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey)  Law, 2001 requires every data controller who is processing personal data to notify unless they are exempt.

• You can work through questions 1-9 in this guide or alternatively click below for an online method to determine whether notification is required.
  Any controller who is exempt may still choose to Notify voluntarily.

• You can Notify on-line by clicking on the box below.
  Your Notification will be submitted electronically and the notification fee should be sent in accordance with the instructions given at the end of the on-line process.



• If you do not wish to Notify on-line, you may complete the Request for Notification form, which is also included in the Notification Handbook; then e-mail, post or fax it to this office.

   

AMENDING AN EXISTING NOTIFICATION OR ONE IN PROGRESS

It is a requirement of the Law that the details in a Notification are kept up to date. 

•  If you wish to amend any details, such as your company name and address, trading names or wish to add additional purposes, then you should contact this office. 
  You will need to know the notification reference number, in order that we may validate your request.
   We can either make such changes for you or open up your notification for Review, so that you may make the required changes online, using the Amend button below.
   
• It is possible to leave the notification processing and return to it at a later date;
  in this case it is important that a note is made of the notification reference number which is shown in red at the top right hand corner of each page on the screen. 
  You may amend a Notification at any stage prior to submission - after that it must be opened for Review.
  Click the Amend button below to amend a Notification in progress or one that has been opened for Review.

Copyright subsists in the copy and is owned by the Commissioner. Data controllers may take copies of their own register entries for their own internal use only.
Apart from that no part of the register may be copied  without the permission of the Commissioner.
